At Horton St Michael's CE First School we pride ourselves in providing a rich and varied curriculum which prepares children for life in the modern world.  .  We are highly aspirational for all of our children and teaching is responsive to children's needs and targets.  Our creative curriculum encompasses all areas of the core and foundation subjects and our children learn through topic based teaching.

We aim for our children to become caring and responsible citizens who:

  • Respect others

  • Are secure in their own values and beliefs

  • Have a sense of wellbeing, self-worth and their place in society

  • Understand how to keep themselves and others safe

  • Creating a sense of responsibility for own learning through marking and feedback and dialogue between teacher and child
  • Involving parents in learning
  • Bringing learning to life through visits, focus weeks, activity days,  community learning
  • Making home learning fun, family orientated and relevant through our learning links activites
  • Encouraging pupil responsibility through school council, house teams and circle times
  • Running a flexible timetable which allows children to explore, investigate and learn in depth
  • Developing links with our local and global community
  • Ensuring coverage of the national curriculum by using a systematic tracking system
  • Working with our diocese
